Know her story and celebrate her coming such a long way.

Today we got talking to the makeup artist Bhawna, who runs her salon successfully in Mumbai and also teaches bridal makeup. She is one of the most modest artists we came across. So lets know her story and celebrate her coming such a long way.

  • When did you know a career in beauty was for you?

Since I was a little girl in fourth standard, I used to sit in front of the mirror for hours and make braids and all kinds of different hairstyles and I think it was my love for beauty that became a passion and then a profession.

  • How long have you been doing makeup, and how did you get started?

I started in the year 2003, but after 2007 it started as a full time thing.

  • Where do you get your inspiration from?

I think my journey was my inspiration. Since I was a child, my father was never in support of my career in makeup, then after my marriage my husband too did not approve with it. But there was a time when the restaurant business of my husband suffered losses, that was the time I decided to go after my love for beauty and then after that there was no turning back.

  • What has been the biggest challenge of your career?

The biggest challenge was that neither my father nor my husband supported me initially, so it was me against the world fighting for my one true love-makeup. I arranged for my own fees to learn the art. And to be honest I didn’t take training from any big academy or artist. I went to a lady who had a makeup studio nearby and paid the fees of a mere amount of rupees 10000. I used to reach there at the earliest, at 8 in the morning every day just to see how a bride gets ready  and to just consume as much as I can.

  • What do you love most about doing makeup?

Eye makeup. Because I think eyes speak  louder and better than words.

  • How would you describe your signature look?

My signature look is because of the result of the my best critique-my husband. Actually when my daughter was in earlier classes in the school, I used to do her makeup for her annual functions. My husband used to very angry that I make her look much older than she is. Then my constant aim, whether we used to go to the movies or watch award functions on television, I used to just watch the makeup. And with continuous efforts I have finally mastered the art of restoring as well as enhancing the innocence of the bride’s face.

  • What sets you apart from other makeup artists?

I don’t know, I think all makeup artists are great. I think I am still a learner. I even learn from the students who come in my academy, whom I teach makeup.  I think I still have a long way to go.

And, we at Shaadi Elephant think that this is what sets Bhawna apart from every other makeup artist in the industry.
